Monsters vs. Aliens

New television versions of hit animated movies Shriek and Kung Fu Panda will premiere on US TV later this year, according to the Hollywood Reporter. TV network NBC has teamed up with Dreamworks' Animation for half-hour holiday specials, Scared Shrekless and Kung Fu Panda Holiday Special. The Halloween-themed Scared Shrekless will be shown on 28 October.  

8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Sept. 3 and 4 at the Gulfside Pavilion on Pensacola Beach. The movies will be shown for free on a 25-foot by 14-foot screen.  

The Atlanta Rhythm Section in concert: 7:30 p.m. Friday, Saenger Theatre, 118 S. Palafox Place. The southern rock group will perform hits such as "So Into You," "Imaginary Lover" and "Spooky."  

 

To find out, I convened a mini focus group of adults in their 30s, 40s, and 50s,; a teenager; and a pair of kids under 10.  

Using Seth Rogen as a voice actor is one of those gloriously counter-intuitive decisions that's almost but not quite as inexplicable as using Jerry Seinfeld 's nasal voice in Bee Movie . Obviously Rogen's roles in Dreamworks' Kung Fu Panda and Monsters Vs. Aliens were both not leading men and Seinfeld's in Bee Movie was played for yuks but think about it--these guys are being paid as "voice talents." I mean, Rogen sounds like the lead singer of a certain hardcore band whose name rhymes with "Bucked Pup" (  

The second annual Salt Lake City Film Festival continues Friday through Sunday, Aug. 13-15, featuring 19 feature films and accompanying shorts.
